Inspect Your Roof for Damage
On April 30th, the Treasure Valley had a severe storm pass through, which included high winds, rains, and hail. It is important to inspect your roof for damage after a storm like this.
Examples of damage that you might find include loose shingles (Figure 1), hail damage (Figure 2), or torn or even missing shingles (Figure 3). These types of damage can lead to water penetration to the roof sheathing and trusses that can damage the whole roof.

Repairs to Prevent Further Damage
If you suspect damage has occurred to your roof, it is important to get repairs done to prevent further damage. Often these repairs are covered by your home insurance, so be sure to contact your insurance company about suspected damage and to evaluate your coverage. Some insurance companies will require an Engineers’ evaluation and report, to assess the damage.
HECO Engineers can assist you, if such an evaluation and report is required. HECO has engineers experienced in doing roof evaluations and providing reports for insurance carriers.
