Construction of Group Camp Site

WHO WE ARE

San Juan Islands National Historical Park / Washington

HECO Engineers was entrusted with the development of a new group camping site at English Camp within the San Juan Islands National Historical Park in Washington. The objective was to create a safe and suitable facility to replace the existing inadequate infrastructure for the OMSI Summer Youth Science Education Camps. Leveraging their expertise, HECO Engineers meticulously planned the campsite location based on the initial topographic survey, ensuring optimal positioning for water pump locations and main camp buildings.

Development of the Group Camping

The development of the group camping site involved the construction of ten campsites, along with designated areas for five future campsites. Each campsite featured an elevated platform to accommodate Park-supplied canvas tents, offering a comfortable and convenient camping experience. To facilitate group meetings and gatherings, HECO Engineers developed an amphitheater and firepit as designated locations within the campsite. Additionally, the project included the installation of an on-site sewage disposal system and the establishment of a water supply line, connecting the new campsite to the existing well and pump station.

HECO Engineers went above and beyond by constructing essential facilities to support the campsite. This included a kitchen, a comfort station, and an enclosed picnic shelter facility. The kitchen facility was equipped with electrical power, potable water, sewer connections, lighting, and kitchen appliances. The comfort station, designed to be sanitary and accessible, provided separate facilities for men and women, each featuring two toilets, a wash sink, and associated amenities. HECO Engineers ensured that all aspects of the project adhered to ADA compliance standards, prioritizing inclusivity and accessibility.
