Marin Headlands Water Line Replacement Project

WHO WE ARE

Golden Gate National Recreation Area, California

HECO Engineers played a significant role in the replacement of the deteriorated water lines within the Marin Headlands of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in California. Originally installed by the Army to serve military operations in the early 1900s, the 6-inch cast iron water lines had suffered from corrosion and tuberculation, rendering them in a state of advanced disrepair.

To address this issue, HECO conducted extensive water modeling of the existing water systems in the Marin Headlands. The results of the water modeling guided the sizing of the new water lines, which were increased in diameter from 6 inches to 12 inches. This upgrade aimed to improve the water distribution infrastructure and ensure the reliable supply of water to Fort Baker, Fort Barry, Fort Cronkhite, the Nike Missile Site, and other military operations within the area.

We provided valuable services in both the preliminary and detailed design phases of the project. This included the preparation of a Title I report for preliminary engineering, as well as the development of Title II construction documents. The project consisted of three separate sections within the Marin Headlands: Field Road, Bunker Road (Capehart), and Bunker Road (Stables), with each section requiring the replacement of a significant length of water line.

The services provided by HECO Engineers for this project encompassed civil engineering, project management, the preparation of a Title I report for preliminary engineering, and the development of Title II construction documents.
