Route 103 Road Improvements Parashant Monument

WHO WE ARE

Parashant National Monument (Grand Canyon), Arizona

Along the 60 mile road from St. George, Utah to the Dellenbaugh cabin site of Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, there is a 300-foot section of unimproved road a few miles from the cabins that was in poor condition.  This section of County road did not have the proper drainage and frequently flooded making vehicle passage difficult.  HECO completed Title II design development services in support of road improvements for the Monument.  The basis for the design was developed from discussions between the NPS staff and the HEC team, and topographic survey.  A survey of the project site was taken, including road features, rock formations, trees, shrubs, drainage channels, side access, etc. at a contour interval to adequately characterize and evaluate the site.

For subsequent design and preparation of construction documents, the project site included approximately 300-foot of unimproved road.  Engineering design / hydrologic analysis for the project were provided.  All designs / analysis were completed in accordance with applicable codes, County standards, and National Park Service Management Policies.  Bid-ready construction drawings were developed at the 75% draft and final submittal phases from approved preliminary design documents and embodied adequate general, landscape, and civil drawings, with details, dimensions, notational information and other data to ensure a complete understanding of all elements of work.
