Rehabilitate Fire System
WHO WE ARE
Case Study: Rehabilitation of Fire System at Big Hole National Battlefield
Location:
Big Hole National Battlefield, Wisdom, MT
Problem:
The Big Hole National Battlefield, situated in Wisdom, MT, faced significant challenges with its fire suppression system. Prolonged and severe winter conditions had caused excessive damage to the wet pipe systems within the park’s housing units’ fire suppression systems. This damage compromised the reliability and effectiveness of the fire hydrants and fire suppression system piping, putting the park’s structures and inhabitants at risk.
Solution Implemented by HECO Engineers
HECO Engineers was tasked with rehabilitating the deteriorated fire hydrants and fire suppression system piping to ensure the safety and reliability of the park’s fire protection system. The comprehensive approach taken by HECO included:
-
- Replacing Wet-Pipe Sprinkler Systems: Five housing units received upgrades from wet-pipe to dry-pipe systems, which are better suited to withstand the freezing temperatures experienced at the park.
- Fire Hydrants Replacement/Rebuilding: Five fire hydrants were either replaced or rebuilt to restore full functionality.
- System Evaluation: The fire pump and its control, the submersible well pump, level sensor and control, and the mechanical room piping layout were thoroughly evaluated to identify and rectify any inefficiencies or damages.
- Waterline Service Reconfiguration: Any necessary reconfiguration of waterline service to the structures was conducted to allow for effective winterization, ensuring that the system could withstand severe winter conditions without sustaining damage.
Services Provided
HECO Engineers provided a comprehensive suite of services to address and resolve the challenges faced by the Big Hole National Battlefield:
-
- Project Management: Overseeing all aspects of the project to ensure timely and effective implementation.
- Project Design: Crafting a tailored solution that addresses the unique challenges of the environment and existing infrastructure.
- Fire Suppression: Enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of the fire suppression systems to protect against future risks.
Project Outcome
The rehabilitation work carried out by HECO Engineers has significantly improved the resilience and reliability of the fire suppression systems at Big Hole National Battlefield. By transitioning to dry pipe systems and upgrading critical components, the park’s housing units are now better equipped to handle the harsh winter conditions, ensuring the safety of both the structures and their inhabitants. HECO’s expertise in project management, design, and fire suppression played a pivotal role in the successful completion of this project, demonstrating our commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions that meet our clients’ needs.
