Clarno Ranger Station Construction
WHO WE ARE
John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Fossil, Oregon
This project designed and constructed a Ranger Station with garage in the Clarno Unit of the park, replacing an existing 76-square foot substandard Visitor Contact Station and operations ‘shed’, as well as eliminating 150-square feet of off-site supply and vehicle storage space.
The new facility is a Ranger Station with visitor contact point and office, employee garage, staff restroom facility and secure storage space for tools, supplies and other equipment for maintenance, interpretation, paleontology and law enforcement. A portion of the existing Visitor Contact Station was demolished. The existing well house remained.
The rehabilitation provided a facility to better support the needs of the Park for security, access and maintenance. The building is connected to grid electricity, potable water supply and has an on-site septic disposal system. The aesthetics of the facility reflects architecture near the site as well as being energy efficient, fire-retardant and provides maximum utilities for as many as six (6) staff.
