Middle Fork Payette River Bridge Replacement

WHO WE ARE

Boise County, Crouch, Idaho

HECO Engineers led a significant project in Boise County, Crouch, Idaho, involving the replacement of a structurally deficient wood bridge with a new steel truss bridge. The original bridge, a single-lane structure with a width of 14 feet, had deteriorated to the point of being unsafe for use. The new two-lane bridge was designed with improved safety features, including approaches for safer vehicular entrance and exit, accommodating vehicles of varying sizes. Additionally, the road alignment was realigned to enhance overall safety.

During the design process, HECO Engineers initially developed a design utilizing 84-inch prestressed concrete bulb tee girders and a composite concrete deck. However, after consultation with Boise County and LHTAC (Local Highway Technical Assistance Council), it was decided to pursue a steel through-truss bridge design. This adjustment necessitated the re-design of the abutments to accommodate the new steel truss bridge.

We relied on established survey control for the project’s duration. Extensive surveying work was conducted to determine the existing road right-of-way, private property boundaries, and topographic data necessary for the design process. Hydraulic modeling was also employed to ensure proper water flow considerations. HECO Engineers prepared right-of-way plans and boundary descriptions to facilitate the acquisition of new right-of-way.

Throughout the project, we collaborated with Elite Edge to complete the design work, leveraging their expertise and experience in structural engineering and civil engineering. Their role encompassed project management, design, surveying, and structural engineering, ensuring seamless coordination and successful project implementation.

The total cost of the project amounted to $1.7 million, reflecting the significant investment in enhancing transportation infrastructure and public safety in Boise County. HECO Engineers takes pride in their comprehensive services, including project management, design, surveying, structural engineering, and civil engineering, which have contributed to the successful completion of this crucial bridge replacement project.
