Swire-Coke Plant Expansion

WHO WE ARE

HECO Engineers Facilitate 100,000-Square-Foot Expansion of Swire Coca-Cola Plant in Fruitland, Idaho

In Fruitland, Idaho, HECO Engineers played a crucial role in supporting the expansion of the Swire Coca-Cola, USA manufacturing plant in 2019. The expansion project aimed to add an administrative office building, new loading docks, and a substantial addition to the warehouse space. As a professional consulting firm, HECO Engineers provided comprehensive engineering services to facilitate the construction of this 100,000-square-foot expansion.

The project commenced with thorough land surveying of the existing building to identify potential conflicts and obstructions during the integration of the new structures. HECO Engineers conducted a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey of the existing foundation, analyzing the findings in the field to compile a detailed report. Using this information, HECO Engineers developed a site plan encompassing all aspects of grading and land layout necessary to support the construction. The grading work was designed to establish a robust concrete slab foundation and footing for the expansion. HECO Engineers provided structural consultation and oversight to ensure the foundation’s integrity, reviewing the structural design and conducting preliminary design work for the new construction. This involved the development of footing and foundation plans, as well as beam layout design, to meet the structural requirements of the entire area.

Furthermore, HECO Engineers took on the design of a new shipping and receiving office, which required integrating all the aforementioned structural elements along with the creation of a new loading dock. The project also included conceptual design work for the site and coordination with the local utility company to increase the capacity of the high-voltage service that powers the complex. HECO Engineers designed a new 4000-amp 480V 3-phase main electrical service to meet the power needs, while also addressing the specific requirements for a canning/bottling line within the existing facility. Additionally, HECO Engineers designed an administration building with offices, common areas, and conference spaces. Notably, they also developed an ingredient storage building classified as Class 1, Division 1 space, requiring a separate legally mandated electrical system for an emergency smoke exhaust system.
