Lost Man Creek Bridges Replacement

WHO WE ARE

Redwood National Park, California

Geneva Road is a mostly unpaved former logging road that is open to public vehicles for its lower 1.25 miles, and above that, functions as a bicycle and pedestrian trail. The four bridges on the road, spanning Little Lost Man Creek and Lost Man Creek were constructed of steel stringers and wood decks by NPS in the 1973-76. The structure has deteriorated in the wet climate and the FHWA biannual bridge inspection reports recommend structural steel repainting or replacement of the bridge superstructures. Under a separate task order, a Scoping report evaluated multiple options for rehabilitating or replacing the four bridges. A Value Analysis session was held in October 2018 to evaluate the options in terms of need, function, initial cost and life cycle cost. It was determined that replacing the steel and wood superstructure with a pre-cast concrete superstructure is the most cost-effective rehabilitation alternative. The lower two bridges are the closest to Highway 101 and provide access to visitors and park resources staff to the upper reaches of the Lost Man Creek watershed and will be replaced first. Under a separate future effort, the upper two bridges will likely be replaced in a similar manner.

The purpose of this task order is for the A/E to complete Title II Design Development and Construction Document Services and Class A cost estimates with the purpose of contracting construction work to replace the deteriorated steel and wood superstructure with a pre-cast concrete superstructure on the following two vehicle bridges on Lost Man Road.

a. Little Lost Man Creek Bridge (PMIS #245777)
b. Lost Man Creek Bridge #1 (PMIS #258461)
